Clean tanks, clear savings: Upgrade solution paid back in only six months

A leading Polish ice cream producer was looking to upgrade their tank cleaning to save on costs and resources. Initial trials convinced them to replace 23 static spay balls with rotary jet heads.

Opting for TJ20G jet heads from Alfa Laval saves 10,000 m3 of water, 650,000 kWh of electricity and 500 tonnes of CO2 – every year.

Hunting for quick wins in tank cleaning

The ice cream lines are running non-stop to produce millions of litres of delicious ice cream. Between every production cycle, the big, vertical tanks used for storing and mixing of ingredients are thoroughly cleaned to meet hygienic requirements.

The tank cleaning process is highly water-intensive, and every CIP-cycle affects the electricity bill, when power is used for pumping, heating, recovery, reuse, and treatment of the tank cleaning water.

Same high cleaning standard - massive savings on resources

The technical team at the ice cream factory sought upgrades that would allow them to save on resources, while maintaining the same, high level of food safety.

“After the initial trials, the team opted to replace the old static spray balls with new rotary jet heads, TJ20G from Alfa Laval,”

says Michal Starczyk, Channel Sales Manager at Alfa Laval Poland and continues:

“It was a safe choice, since the TJ20G jet head reduces the cleaning cycle by up to 60% and also minimizes water, energy and chemical consumption.”

Paid back in only six months

The 23 new rotary jet heads quickly demonstrated their efficiency and returned savings on water and CIP media of 10,000 m3 annually.

At the same time, the power consumption for pumping, heating and treating CIP liquid was reduced by 650,000 kWh, reducing the carbon footprint of the factory by 500 tonnes.

The total savings on electricity, water and chemicals paid back the entire jet head installation in less than six months.
